What's in a Name?

Well blog name hunting was one of the biggest hurdles I faced before starting this blog. But it was an interesting one as well. Well, what's in a blog name? In my opinion, I put it up there on the priority list, because its going to stick with the blog as long as it lasts. What was I looking at? Something which isn’t too big, too arbit, too cocky or too irrelevant. Browsing and browsing, failure after failure. As friends would know, I even resorted to my favourite tool, with multiple keyword combinations, which still didn’t yield success! Drat. What to do? Ditched it for some time, went on one of those random walks, this time with no one. Yes. Was alone! And at the end of it, guess what?! I got my blog name. NAAT! This isn’t some fairytale bollywood bullshit. Success can't be purchased or cajoled or bribed, not at any store, not even online!


Anyways, got back to the computer, logged onto Facebook, and was reading some arbit article when I chanced upon the word LUCID. Wiki-ed it, and found no result. Instead, it showed lucid dreaming, which was described as follows –

A lucid dream is a dream in which the sleeper is aware that he or she is dreaming. When the dreamer is lucid, he or she can actively participate in and often manipulate the imaginary experiences in the dream environment.

Similar stuff?? Definitely! This is sort of what we all do in hostels all the time! Well most of us. Most of the time. But yes, its fun, possibly productive and a serious way to kill time, as I had claimed previously as well. Staring into nothingness. Dreaming about shit. Any kind of shit. Friends or fantasies. Incidents or illusions. Gotcha! There you are, my beauty! One word decided.


So log onto www.blogger.com run through all those rituals till "Enter Blog Name" page. Try lucid-dreams.blogspot.com. Oh for one, I am stuck with anything remotely Google. I always will be. I am always dreamy-eyed whenever the name comes up. What a wonderful manifestation this virtual beast is. So no wordpress and waffle like that for me. All that apart for now. So yes, rejected. Time and again. All combinations of lucid and dream(s). This remotely isn’t a fairytale! Then now to synonyms.com. Type in dream. Get loads of stuff. Nothing commonplace. Aaargh. Failure again. So just think to myself, still on Facebook. Again some random word walks upto me, and introduced itself as "Illusion". Thought about it.

Why not? I thought. Sort of on the dot. Thus the name was bought.

And thus this baby took birth. www.lucid-illusions.blogspot.com. Happy with it? Yes. Actually sort of. Atleast for the moment!


P.S. Mixture of reactions to the blog name as well, when the first post was up, including "Jeez", "What shit?", "Seriously, chiggi?", "Hmmm….", "Brilliant!". Well the last one was mine!
